Introduction

The capital city of Rajasthan - Jaipur - is also known as the 'Pink City' as almost all the buildings of Jaipur are dyed in pink. It was done so in 1876 by Maharaja Man Singh II to impress the Prince of Wales during his visit to India. This first planned medieval city of Rajasthan has some of the best forts and palaces in the state. You also can witness some of the most vibrant colours of regional Rajasthani culture here. Places to Visit in Jaipur
» The City Palace : This erstwhile palace of local rulers covers almost one-seventh part of the city. It reveals a fine mix of Mughal and Rajasthani architecture.

» Jantar Mantar : It consists of a large collection of sculptures while each one serves a specific purpose of measuring attitudes, azimuths, counting of stars or calculating eclipses. This is the only observatory among all the five, which is still in running condition.

» Hawa Mahal : Meaning the 'Palace of Winds', it was the private chamber of ladies from where they could have a look at the activities of Jaipur city. It is one of the favourites among the tourists.

» Jaigarh Fort : It was situated north of Jaipur, Jaigarh Fort looks quite similar to Amber Fort. World's largest cannon, three water holes, a regal museum and some eclectic views make it special.

There are some nearby attractions worth visiting. These include Sisodia Rani Ka Bagh (8 km), Amber Fort (11 km), Samode Fort (40 km) and Ranthambore National Park (95 km).

How to Reach Jaipur
Jaipur's only airport is situated at Sangner, 15 km from city centre. Here international and domestic fights operate here regularly. Local railway station is west of the old city. You can reach here from any of the major rail heads of the country. The city also well linked with other cities through national highways.
